What to do in the Heart of Wales.
There is plenty to do in the Heart of Wales, whether you are the energetic type who likes the more extreme sports of climbing and mountain biking, to the more laid back pastimes of walking and sailing there is plenty of scope for an unforgettable holiday.
On the other hand if it's peace and quiet you are after then just lounging around your cottage and going for walks in the locality you won’t be disappointed.
Being in the centre of Wales Graig Farm is the ideal place to base your Touring holiday.
Places to see…
Powis Castle
World famous terraced Gardens and Medieval Castle containing one of the finest collections of paintings and furniture in Wales. The Gardens at Powis Castle are one of the Hidden Gems of the area and is a must for all visitors.
Welshpool-Llanfair Light Railway
A trip back in time on the Welshpool to Llanfair Steam Railway is always exciting and the smell of steam brings back a bygone age. A great day out for Children Large and Small. Why not couple this with a trip to Powis Castle, you can walk from the station to the Castle.
Llanrhaeadr Waterfall
Pistyll Rhaeadr is the highest Waterfall in Wales and England is accessed from the village of Llanrhaeadr-ym–Mochnant about 30 miles away. A Walk to the top is a great way to see the area.
Portmeirion
Portmeirion Village and Gardens on the shores of Snowdonia makes a magical day out for all the family. Shops, cafes, beaches and woodland walks.
Snowdonia
The mountains of Snowdonia are ideal for a touring holiday and a trip to the top on the Railway from Llanberis would be truly memorable.
Lake Vyrnwy
Created at the turn of the 20th century this manmade lake is a beautiful spot to do some bird watching, the R.S.P.B. have a reserve there. You can hire cycles from the nearby Hotel and enjoy a trip around the lake. A great place for a picnic maybe?
King Arthur’s Labyrinth, Corris Nr Machynlleth
A boat ride along a beautiful subterranean river passes through the great waterfall into the Labyrinth. Here, enduring tales of the deeds of King Arthur and other legends are retold as you walk through the spectacular underground setting. Aberdovey
This is the nearest sea to us at the Graig and the picturesque village of Aberdovey has a lovely beach and a very peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. For a livelier atmosphere there’s Barmouth up the coast.
Blaenau Ffestiniog
Llechwedd Slate Caverns offer a choice of two spectacular rides into the vast slate mines of Blaenau Ffestiniog.
Pennant Melangell
St Melangell's is one of the loveliest small churches in Britain, and one of the most remote. Its famous shrine attracts many visitors, but not enough to disturb its tranquillity.
Derwen Garden Centre
Derwen Garden Centre has a unique, relaxed atmosphere and offers an excellent range of plants, garden accessories, giftware - plus a licensed cafe.
Glansevern Hall Gardens
25 acres of garden noted for unusual tree species. Herbaceous, walled, rock water and rose gardens. Lakeside walk through woodland. Food festival in September
Gregynog Hall
Gregynog Hall is an ancient house with a Victorian facade. Once a landed estate, now a university conference centre, the house is still at the heart of the local community.
Llangollen
While on you travels here in mid wales why not viist the wonderfull town of Llangollen. Home to the Famous international Eisteddfod and just down the valley from the famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct

Fishing
Both coarse fishing and river fishing are available within 10 miles of the Graig. Fishing is also available at the nearby lakes of Vyrnwy and Clywedog.
Quad Trekking
For a new experience why not try quad trekking. With fantastic scenery and great excitement this truly is great.
White Water Rafting
Whether you are part of a Large group or Family group, an exhilarating ride down the River Dee, is a great experience. a Great idea for some of our larger groups and conferences. Great for Team Building.
Horse Riding
Whether you bring your own horse to the Graig (we have 7 stables) or you pick some of the many trekking centre's in the area you are sure to have a good time.
Shooting
Mid Wales has the reputation as being the shooting capital of Britain. With both Clay Pigeon and many game shoots within easy reach.
Mountain Biking
The Coed y Brennin outdoor centre at Dolgellau has many tracks for beginners as well as the more experienced rider.
Wind Surfing and Sailing
Bala Lake is the place to go for wind surfing, You can take your own or there are classes you can take with experienced instructors.
Walking
Welshpool is fortunate in having two National Trails within close proximity of the Town; Offa's Dyke path runs to the East and the historically significant Glyndwr's Way completes its 132 mile trek in Welshpool. The Ann Griffiths Walk, used together with Glyndwr's Way, makes for an excellent looped walk weaving though the stunning Vyrnwy Valley.
The Severn Way and Canal Towpath also provide the opportunity for walkers to experience different natural habitats, and venture into the heart of the unspool rural landscape and market towns. Golf…
There are a number of challenging courses nearby. Welshpool Golf Club is only 5 miles away and the links course at Aberdovey is about an hour away.
Welshpool
Anyone who has ever played at Welshpool Golf Club will remember it as a great experience and a great test of golf. Most visitors come from the West Midlands and newcomers are always amazed by the breathtaking scenery found all over the course.
Aberdovey
Set amongst the outstandingly beautiful scenery of Snowdonia National Park, situated between the coastal dunes of Aberdovey beach and the Cambrian Mountains, this 6,645 yard challenge is a hidden gem of a traditional seaside links course.

A subject close to everyone's heart!!
You won't find any department stores here, just wonderful boutique gift shop and craft studios. In fact there aren't even any windows and doors on some of our shops...They're known as Farmers Markets, and they showcase amazing local produce made on Mid Wales' doorstep. And no, you don't need your wellies because local farmers and producers will come to you.
Coed y Dinas Welshpool
Coed-y-Dinas has an exquisite range of everything you could possibly need for garden, home and countryside living. From the moment you enter Coed-y-Dinas you will feel at home with knowledgeable and friendly staff.
Farmers Markets
There are a number of Farmers markets in the area and a large Sunday market at Churchstoke and Oswestry.
Food and Drink…
Mid Wales isn’t exactly renowned for its culinary delights but if you look hard enough there are plenty of good quality eateries which will not disappoint. The Village of Llanfair Caereinion, about 1.5 Miles away offers quite a few “Local” type pubs offering the usual variety of beers and wines,. There are 3 Pubs in the Village, All do Food, and are of a good overall quality. The Fish and Chip takeaway in Llanfair is good, and within easy reach. There are a greater variety of pubs and clubs in Welshpool and Newtown. Welshpool has a number of takeaway's, Chinese and Indian restaurants and all are recommended
